At Forum Acusticum 2026, held in Graz from September 8th to 12th, Louena Shtrepi, professor at the Polytechnic University of Torino and member of the AIA Board of Directors, gave a plenary lecture titled “Crossing Boundaries: The Role of Architectural Acoustics in Shaping the Design Process.”
The lecture addressed the role of architectural acoustics in the design process, demonstrating how the discipline’s knowledge and tools can contribute to a project from its earliest stages and integrate with other aspects that determine the quality of built environments.
The lecture offered a reflection on the contribution of acoustics to contemporary design, highlighting the importance of an interdisciplinary approach and dialogue between the various figures involved in the design process. Through examples and research experiences, Louena Shtrepi clearly illustrated the opportunities and challenges of integrating acoustics into design practice, also addressing, with a touch of irony, some of the difficulties that can characterize the interaction between architects and acousticians.
Particularly significant was her acknowledgement of her research group at the Polytechnic University of Turin and the Italian Acoustics Association. In her closing remarks, the speaker emphasized the value of sharing, participation, and collaboration in her professional and scientific journey.
The plenary lecture represented an important recognition of Louena Shtrepi’s scientific contribution to the field of architectural acoustics and testifies to the value of the research and scientific community that the Italian Acoustical Society promotes and supports.
Congratulations, Louena, and thank you from everyone at the AIA!
