With deep respect and gratitude, “The Sound of Ideas: A Tribute to Professor Angelo Farina” honors the memory of a man who dedicated his life to acoustics, rigorously and creatively exploring the scientific dimensions of sound—from studies on acoustic propagation to confined and open environments, from advanced measurements to simulations and “auralizations” of architectural spaces, with the goal of making acoustics truly accessible and livable. He made a decisive contribution to the development of tools and software that allowed us to measure, simulate, and reproduce acoustic spaces with a previously unimaginable level of precision and realism. Not only a researcher, but also a passionate teacher and a thoughtful mentor, capable of inspiring generations of students and young researchers. His ability to transform an intuition, an idea, into a concrete project—into new knowledge—was his hallmark. With the awarding of the prestigious Audio Engineering Society (AES) Silver Medal in 2024, the entire academic and professional community recognized the uniqueness of his scientific and human contributions. This event aims to be an opportunity to reflect on what sound—understood as physics, as art, as a space for life and culture—can still offer us, inspired by the spirit and ingenuity of Professor Farina, contemplating the acoustics of the future.
