The acoustic measurement hides various pitfalls, both instrumental and methodological. During the days, some of the most common errors that can be encountered during the execution of acoustic measurements will be discussed.

Who is the course for:
to all technicians and professionals who work in the field of acoustics and who want to investigate aspects relating to measurement errors caused by inappropriate settings, choices of unsuitable parameters, particular phenomena or inadequate procedures depending on the results sought (no reference is made uncertainty of measurement).

Course objectives:
provide the basic indications for the correct setting of the instruments, according to the specific measurement, remember some concepts underlying the parameters used by the sound level meter and, above all, raise awareness of the technician on some aspects that allow the identification of critical situations, with application examples .

6 CFP engineers were requested (currently being accredited).

6 hours of TCA professional updating are provided (valid as a mandatory update for technicians competent in acoustics, pursuant to Legislative Decree 42/2017 – Course authorized by the Lombardy Region ref. 2021-UNPVCLE-0155339).

The number of participants in the course is limited to 50 people.

N.B. For the release of the 6 CFPs and the 6 hours of TCA refresher training, participation in the entire duration of the course is required in addition to passing the final test. Information on the test will be given during the course.

Cerniglia

Andrea Cerniglia has been dealing with acoustics and vibrations for over 35 years, both in the environmental and industrial fields. After an initial four-year experience in the field of non-destructive testing in the civil field, with particular regard to ultrasound and modal analysis, for the next twenty years he mainly dealt with instrumentation, both as sales support and as research and development. for the definition of the characteristics of new measurement and analysis systems. Since 2009 he has been working as a freelancer in acoustics and vibrations and is the technical director of a leading consulting company operating in the same sector. He has dealt with important projects in Italy and abroad and is a member of the UNI Acoustics Commission and coordinator of a specific working group for the drafting of a new standard. During 2020, together with other professionals, he formed an association of experts in the fields of the environment, health and culture.

– Preliminary information: RC circuits, low-pass filters, high-pass filters, band-pass filters, band-suppression filters, BPC filters, FFT filters, sampling and quantization.
– Measurement chain: microphone, preamplifier, adapters, extension cables.
– Problems related to dynamics: electrical noise, distortion, 3 dB / oct increase due to under-range and the appearance of ghost frequencies due to overload.
– Constants Slow, Fast, Imp, MaxSlow, MaxFast, MaxImp, Linear average, exponential average.
– Exercises and discussion

Friday 03 December 2021 at 15: 00-18: 00 (Second part)

– Estimate of the error due to the average time, BT.
– Sampling interval, minimum requirements for finding CI.
– Errors related to the third octave weighting and subsequent recalculation of the overall.
– Non combinability of the spectra of minimums, maximums, percentiles.
– Beats, standing waves.
– Advanced techniques: mapping, intensity,
microphone arrays, measurement of sound absorption.
– Exercises and discussion
